Waitukubuli Trail
Waitukubuli is the name given to Dominica by the indigenous Kalinago people. Meaning “Tall is her body”, the Waitukubuli National Trail is the Caribbean’s only long-distance hiking trail. Measuring 185 km in length, the interconnected trails were established before modern roads and used by the indigenous Kalinago, maroons and escaped slaves. In 2013 the Waitukubuli National Trail was officially opened to the public.
Kalinago Territory
The Kalinago are the descendants of the original people of Dominica. Following the arrival of European settlers the Kalinago were eventually given 3700 acres of land. A visit to the Kalinago Territory (once known as the Carib Reserve) is well worth the time. You will learn about their ancient rituals and rites as well as cultural heritage of dance, song, basket weaving, canoe building, pottery making and much more.
Emerald Pool
Emerald green cool waters await you at this serene and relaxing setting which features a 40 foot waterfall at the center of the forest and surrounded by rocks and low hanging trees. Emerald Pool is the one of the most accessible waterfalls in Dominica. It is part of the Morne Trois Piton National Park which is a UNESCO Heritage site. Bring your swimming costume and a towel to fully enjoy this breathtaking experience.
